The Entire Universe … in one short video

Now this is cool, or at least it is for me, and so perhaps you might (or might not) also think so.

The American Museum of Natural History created a movie called “The Known Universe” for you to enjoy, and what is interesting about it is that everything you see within it comes from the world’s most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas. That is maintained and updated by their very own in-house astrophysicists, because of course the American Museum of Natural History also includes the Hayden Planetarium.

Yes, it’s a shameless promotion, and I do not normally do things like ads or promotions, and yet this is not the same because it is a Natural History Museum, and so deserves to be shouted about from the rooftops.

The film, created by the Museum, is part of an exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, starts out with a 3D ariel map of the Himalayas, and then rapidly zooms out to show you just how big the universe actually is.

Enjoy. (Oh and yes, that is over 12 million shares … you are about to see why).

Oh and check the staff list, because there listed as director is of course Neil deGrasse Tyson
