This week’s selection of weird religious news was of course sourced from election week. I’ve split it into both pre and then post election items.
Why?
Well basically because the things that were frantically important prior to the election, such as migrants, suddenly ceased in importance once the election was done. Funny that.
Side Note: The cartoonist Rob Rogers who drew the above was fired from his newspaper for the “crime” of criticising Trump. He has a book of cartoons that is soon coming out you might enjoy. Go here to pre-order. (I don’t get any $$ for promoting it, and have not been asked to do so, I simply think that if you are reading this then you might like it. For non US folks, be aware that the postage is high).
What happened during the past Election Week?
Prior to the Election
In the days just prior to the election, Migrants were a very hot topic amongst the religious right-wing, (but the moment the election happens, the topic suddenly gets dropped like a hot potato) …
- Sam Rohrer: The Migrant Caravan Is a ‘Fight Against God Himself’
- Michele Bachmann Blames Undocumented Immigrants for Polio-Like Virus Outbreak
“Kill all the Males” was apparently a serious proposal from this GOP State Rep who embraces the Bible as a policy text …
The theme that all Democrats are evil bubbled to the surface …
- ‘Duck Dynasty’ Patriarch’s GOTV Message: Democrats Are Evil and Depraved God-Haters
- Liz Crokin: Voting Democrat Is a Vote for the Rape, Torture, and Murder of Children
- Christian Apologist: Democrats’ “Ungodly” Platforms Amount to “Treason”
Using the supernatural to rig an election was also a thing …
If you are not Christian then apparently you are depraved …
- Trump Cabinet Bible Study Leader Explains the ‘Depravity’ of Non-Christian Public Officials … (actually means “There are people who do not believe what I believe, and they are depraved”)
And of course Trump is still the Messiah …
- Pre-Election Billboard Ads Portray Donald Trump as Second Coming of Jesus
Some really really don’t understand what democracy actually means (the pure stupidity of this next item is jaw-dropping stuff) …
- Christian Activist: By Voting, Democrats Are Violating the Will of the People
After The election
Just after it was clear how the vote was going, we get this …
- ‘We Do Not Accept Defeat’: Michele Bachmann Prayed God Would Maintain GOP Control of the House … (Well gosh that worked out well for her then)
Denial and rejection of reality is a persistent theme with these folks so this really should not be a surprise …
- Dave Daubenmire; ‘You’ll Never Convince Me’ Democrats Won the House
- Kat Kerr: ‘The Red Tsunami Did Happen’ … (she claims that lots of the Democrats who were elected to the House of Representatives are secretly Republican “scouts” sent to infiltrate the party.
- Mark Taylor Stands by His ‘Red Tsunami’ Prophecy … (I wonder if he is familiar with the Old Testament directive that false prophets should be stoned to death)
… and continuing with the theme of rejecting facts and reality, we also have this …
- Michele Bachmann: The Prayers of Christians Are Reforming Saudi Arabia … (I have a suspicion that Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi would not have agreed)
There was also this for the new “Acting” AG …
- Acting AG Whitaker: Judges Should Have a ‘Biblical View of Justice’… (We should be more than a little bit nervous because the Bible endorses Slavery as a jolly good idea).
… and apparent loosing is all part of God’s plan …
- E.W. Jackson: God Is Faking Out the Democrats by Giving Them Control of the House… (How exactly does God arrange this, does he perhaps rig the ballots?)
The election did bring much good news. That includes this …
- Kim Davis, Anti-Gay Clerk from Rowan County (KY), Has Lost Her Re-Election Race … (It really could not have happened to a better person, this is a well deserved loss)
Anyway, now that the election is done, we can get back to the normal weirdness – which is essentially blatant hypocrisy as practised by the right-wing God-squad …
- “Ex-Gay” Therapist Who Pushes Conversion Therapy Found on Gay Dating Apps
Oh yes, one other bit of election news. Parkland Survivors Offer “Thoughts and Prayers” to Failed NRA-Backed Candidates …
Sending my thoughts and prayers to every NRA backed politician tonight. (;
