Actually, I’m being a tad unfair. Intolerance, xenophobia, misogyney, and general obnoxiousness, is an ancient religious recipe, is not new, and has always been there. Crack open any history book to find out. Trump did not create it, he simply granted it official permission to manifest itself in the public square.
What happened during the last 7 days?
The Trump cult devotees continued to worship their messiah …
- Lance Wallnau: The Prayers Obama Rejected Were ‘Accumulated’ for Trump … (and his “evidence” as proof is to claim that Trump has been wonderfully successful)
- Confused Jesus-Follower Franklin Graham: Donald Trump “Defends the Faith” … (but only if your faith happens to be in the $$ and Donald)
- Ryan Zinke: Donald Trump is “the Man Who Brought Christmas Back to America”…(This must be a shock to all those that enjoyed Christmas last year without realising that it had left).
Migrants continue to be demonised …
- Carl Gallups: Migrant ‘Caravan’ Is the Judgment of God on America …(For this guy, and also most of the GOP, the text under the statue of liberty that reads “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses” is apparently being interpreted to mean “You can fuck right off“)
Banning the highly dangerous “Gay conversion therapy” provoked this reaction …
- Andrew Wommack: ‘Political Correctness Is Nothing but Anti-Christ’… (His “reasoning” is that stopping people from discriminating against others is an attack on his freedom).
As a bit of comic relief, we also learned what happened to the dinosaurs (according to somebody whose only qualification is that he believes the bible is a 100% accurate science text)…
“you had little tiny dinosaurs on the Ark,” but they didn’t survive after the flood receded because all of the vegetation had been destroyed.”
(There are trees that are older then the age of the earth that this guy believe in)
Religious discrimination in also running rampant in some minds against anybody who has the wrong belief …
- John Guandolo: The Attorney General and DOJ Should Have Prevented Muslims From Being Elected to Congress … (“My imaginary friends is really real, and your imaginary friend is fake”)
- Baptist Hate-Preacher: “Hanukkah is a Deception from Hell” …(I suspect quite a few also consider his stance to be “a deception from Hell”)
Trump supporting conspiracy theorist is very upset about her twitter ban …
“Now, I have theories as to why. They did not tell me which tweet triggered it. My number one theory is that I expose elite pedophiles, Twitter covers up for elite pedophiles”
(It was not just one of her batshit insane tweets they got her the boot, but rather lots of them, and it was not because she “expose elite pedophiles“, but because she was being an obnoxious twit on twitter).
We also got a claim that Human Rights conflict with Christian Beliefs …
- Stefan Molyneux: Believing in ‘Universal Human Rights’ Makes Christians Vulnerable to Migrants… (and yes, this is indeed him playing the “Migrants” card so that the resulting fear can rile up a mob of pitchfork wielding villagers to go after “them”. It is very blatant in-your-face emotional manipulation).
This past week has seen the Catholic church officially refuse to take responsibility for the sexual abuse …
- Catholic Cardinal Blames Sex Scandals on “Moral Depravity” of Gay People …(His stance is weird, he blames gay people, but also asserts that gay people don’t actually exist. I have no idea how that works. Schrodinger gay people – they exist and don’t exist at the same time)
Finally, least you wonder, the US has not managed to successfully corner the market for religious stupidity …
- Greek Orthodox Bishop Claims Earth is the Only Planet in the Universe…(One can only wonder what his answer might be when somebody asks him about the NASA InSight mission that just landed on Mars).
Religious nutter of the week – Oklahoma Republican State Sen. Joseph Silk
Here is what happens when you vote for right-wing religious nuts …
OK Legislator Files Bill to Put Women in Jail for Life if They Have an Abortion…
SB 13, the “Abolition of Abortion in Oklahoma Act,” would give a fertilized egg all the same “rights, powers, privileges, justice and protections” as adult humans.
Which means if women have abortions — essentially, commit murder under this new bill — they could spend the rest of their lives in prison.
This comes via Oklahoma Republican State Sen. Joseph Silk.
Least you fail to grasp how utterly insane this is, let me follow up with this. It also means that a miscarriage would be manslaughter and that could also result in a jail sentence.
He tried this about 2 years ago and it failed then. Well, he is back, so here we go again.
