On a campaign stop at Crazy Water Hotel in Mineral Wells in Texas, Beto O’Rourke lost his rag with one guy who was a Greg Abbott supporter and called him a “Mother F*cker”.
What’s the story here?
Here is the transcription of what played out…
I’m going to make sure that … now eleven weeks since we lost 19 kids and two teachers … shot to death with a weapon originally designed for use in combat … legally purchased by an eighteen year old, who did not try to obtain one when he was 16 or 17, but followed the law that’s on the books, ladies and gentlemen, that says you can buy not one, you can buy two or more if you want to … AR15s … hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and take that weapon that was originally designed for use on the battlefield in Vietnam to penetrate and enemy soldier’s helmet at 500 feet and knock him down dead … up against kids at five feet …
(breaks dialog and points across the room saying)
…it may be fun to you MotherF*cker but its not funny to the …
(entire crowd, with the exception of the “MotherF*cker”, erupts and jumps up cheering with applause)
This is the clip of how it went down …
That my friends is how you win elections, you call it out as it really is and say what everything else is thinking.
I’d also bet that heckler did not expect that.
A Bit More Context
According to NBC News, a group of Greg Abbott supporters had turned up. Shortly prior to the above Beto had said …
“I want to hear a round of applause for these Abbott supporters who are here I’m glad that you all came, Thank you for coming out. That’s not easy to do. But you’re welcome to join us and we’re glad that you’re here.”
Two Simple Thoughts
Point 1
Some might indeed suggest he should be professional and not use such language. Personally I think those expressing that thought can basically Fuck Off, and I’d tell them that to their face.
John Lewis perhaps put it best when he said, “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America“
Point 2
There are some who will quip something along these lines “2nd Amendment, tough shit, so deal with it“.
Yep, I’m on board with that, especially the “well regulated” part.
You want to drive, sure go for it, but you also need to pass a test, get licensed, and carry insurance. Once all that is done then the open road is yours. If something bad happens then the insurance company is there.
Rinse and repeat for guns, it’s seriously not that hard.
The full official Town Hall clip
Here it is …
The 16:52 mark is the MotherF*ucker bit.
What comes next?
The last Democrat to sit in the Texas governor’s seat was Ann Richards back in 1990. I sincerely and deeply hope that the next one will be Beto.
